Creating caviar in Stardew Valley is more intricate than it may initially appear. To produce this artisan item, players need a specific species of fish and a preserves jar. Like other artisan goods, caviar has a higher value compared to the raw materials used to create it, in addition to being a sought-after gift. It is also required for completing the movie theater bundle, which becomes available after finishing a main storyline.
How to Craft Caviar in Stardew Valley
Caviar is crafted by placing sturgeon roe in a preserves jar. While various types of roe can be processed in a preserves jar, only sturgeon roe will transform into caviar. There are two ways to collect sturgeon roe; however, one method consistently yields results.
The first approach involves placing a sturgeon in a fish pond, which will produce sturgeon roe sporadically. To construct a fish pond, gather 200 stones, 5 seaweed, 5 green algae, and 5,000 gold. The construction will take three in-game days to complete. Once the pond is ready, catch a sturgeon, which can only be found during summer and winter, and add it to the pond.
The fish pond starts with one sturgeon, and to encourage reproduction, players must complete quests by providing the requested items. The likelihood of daily roe production increases with the number of sturgeon in the pond.
Quests for the fish pond appear every few days once the maximum fish limit is reached. The quests include:
- 1 sturgeon – 1 diamond
- 3 sturgeons – 1 jelly or 1 pickle or 2 maple syrups
- 5 sturgeons – 3 omni geodes
- 7 sturgeons – 1 nautilus shell
Additionally, while catching sturgeons, players have a chance to find sturgeon roe in treasure chests; however, this is contingent upon luck during the fishing trip.
Once you have obtained sturgeon roe, place it into the preserves jar. Preserves jars can be crafted at farming level 4 using 50 wood, 40 stone, and 8 coal. It takes a little over four in-game days for sturgeon roe to mature into caviar.
