In a surprising turn of events, Kevin Costner’s highly anticipated film Horizon: An American Saga: Chapter 1 is now streaming.
This Western film, which initially premiered in June 2024, has become available on streaming services ahead of expectations, as prior announcements indicated it would be a platform exclusive. This unexpected release has stirred interest among movie enthusiasts.
The first chapter of Costner’s ambitious saga received mixed reviews and struggled at the box office, grossing $38 million against a $50 million budget. Following its lackluster performance, New Line Cinema has postponed the sequel, which was filmed concurrently with Chapter 1, from its slated August 2024 release. Although the sequel hasn’t premiered, it was showcased at the Venice Film Festival in September 2024.
What’s Next for the Horizon: An American Saga Sequels?
Costner envisioned Horizon: An American Saga as a four-part Western series. While it remains uncertain if Chapters 3 and 4 will see the light of day, Costner has expressed his commitment to continue the saga. In a recent interview, he stated, “I don’t know how I’m going to do it, but I’m going to make [Chapter 3] and then I’m going to make the fourth one. And if you want to say ‘the end’ at that point, then that’s the end.”
The saga unfolds over a 15-year period during the American Civil War, with plot details currently under wraps. However, reports suggest the narrative will explore Costner’s character facing the challenges of the natural landscape while engaging with indigenous peoples affected by Western expansion.
In addition to directing, Costner stars alongside a talented cast, including Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, and others. He also serves as a producer, collaborating with key industry figures.
