Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips, the talented duo behind Dean & Britta and members of Galaxie 500 and Luna, are set to unveil their latest holiday album in collaboration with Sonic Boom. Titled A Peace of Us, this new collection is scheduled for release on November 22 via Carpark Records.
The album’s first single is a haunting rendition of Willie Nelson’s classic “Pretty Paper,” featuring Britta’s stirring vocals alongside Sonic Boom’s unique style. A visually captivating video, directed by Leanna Kaiser, accompanies the release.
Wareham shared insights about the track, recalling its emotional depth: “This was a hit for Roy Orbison in 1963 and it’s a pretty song, but the lyrics, about a man who sits alone on the sidewalk outside a department store selling ribbons and paper, are sad. Britta arranged this in the style of our synth-heavy score for the film Mistress America.”
A Peace of Us comprises 14 tracks, showcasing a variety of festive songs reimagined through the duo’s artistic lens. This album follows their previous work, Quarantine Tapes, released in 2020, and Sonic Boom’s collaboration with Panda Bear titled Reset from 2022.
