In a thrilling encounter, Kate Cross scored two runs off the last ball, resulting in a dramatic tie between the Northern Superchargers and Southern Brave in The Hundred.
Set against a sluggish wicket, the Superchargers’ pursuit of 100 runs was nerve-wracking from start to finish, following a challenging batting display from Southern Brave. Captain Georgia Adams led her team effectively, maintaining pressure during the chase, with England bowler Lauren Bell delivering an exceptional performance with figures of 4-11.
Despite the difficulties of the pitch, which hampered boundary-hitting, both Phoebe Litchfield and Alice Davidson-Richards appeared poised to steer Hollie Armitage’s side toward victory. However, their dismissals just as momentum shifted left the outcome uncertain until the final moments.
Southern Brave managed a modest total, with Maia Bouchier and Chloe Tryon contributing little after a succession of wickets threatened to derail their innings. Rhianna Southby and Bell helped push the score past the psychological barrier of 100 runs, crucial given the match’s tense nature.
Though Southern Brave’s score proved sufficient to avoid defeat for the Superchargers, both teams will reflect on missed chances for a first victory in The Hundred.
Player of the Match – Lauren Bell
“The emotions were high! During that last set of five deliveries, I felt a rush of adrenaline. Moments like this are why we play cricket,” Bell remarked.
Looking ahead, The Hundred will continue with two exciting matches scheduled for Wednesday. The Trent Rockets Women will face off against the Birmingham Phoenix Women at 3 PM, followed by the men’s teams from the same franchises at 6:35 PM.
