Hideki Matsuyama and Collin Morikawa are poised for an exciting Sunday showdown at The Sentry, with only a single shot separating the two competitors after both carded impressive 11-under 62s in the third round.
Former Masters champion Matsuyama currently leads with a score of 27 under par at Kapalua, with two-time major champion Morikawa closely trailing at 26 under in this inaugural PGA Tour event of 2025.
Matsuyama made a valiant attempt to tie the course record with an eagle putt on the 18th hole, ultimately settling for a birdie—his 11th of the day—marking a remarkable performance in Hawaii, where he maintained his lead from the previous round.
Morikawa concluded his round with a birdie, bringing his total to nine for the day, which included a 25-foot eagle at the par-five fifth hole that propelled him momentarily into the lead.
“Collin played well, and I just kind of followed him; it was a good day,” Matsuyama said. “It was a lot of fun, but I would like him to take it easy tomorrow.”
Reflecting on the final round pressure, Morikawa noted, “You look back at the greats like Tiger Woods; he consistently performed at that level every week.”
He added, “I think if I asked myself, ‘Did I do that the past six years, every time?’ Probably not. But it’s challenging. My mindset this year is, ‘I’ve got four days; let’s see what I can do.'”
Belgium’s Thomas Detry trails Matsuyama by five shots, sitting at 22 under par after an impressive eight-under round. Korea’s Sungjae Im is also in contention at 21 under, having matched Matsuyama and Morikawa’s scores with an exceptional 11-under 62.
England’s Harry Hall is in fifth place at 20 under following a solid third-round performance of 66.
The excitement builds as golf enthusiasts prepare to witness the final round of The Sentry, scheduled to take place live.
