Henry Cavill is set to embark on a new adventure as he joins the cast of the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Voltron, being developed by Amazon MGM Studios. This announcement follows Cavill’s departure from iconic roles, including that of Superman and Geralt of Rivia.
The casting news, reported recently, reveals that Cavill is the second actor confirmed for the project, with Daniel Quinn-Toye also taking on a leading role. Quinn-Toye has gained recognition for his work as Tom Holland’s understudy in a notable production of Romeo & Juliet in London’s West End.
While specific details about Cavill’s character remain under wraps, sources suggest he is poised to portray Keith Kogane, who leads a group of five space explorers dispatched by the Galaxy Alliance to the planet Arus. Upon their arrival, the team uncovers powerful robot lions that enable them to merge and form Voltron, the universe’s defense against King Zarkon and his formidable Drule empire.
The original Voltron series debuted in 1984, adapting the 1981 anime series Beast King GoLion. The show quickly gained popularity in America, leading to the creation of new episodes and a crossover special featuring different versions of Voltron. In 2016, DreamWorks Animation revitalized the franchise with the animated series Voltron: Legendary Defender, which saw great success over its 78-episode run.
Rawson Marshall Thurber has been announced as the director for the live-action Voltron film, collaborating on the script with Ellen Shanman. As of now, a release date for the much-anticipated film has not been confirmed, leaving fans eagerly awaiting further updates.
