Bangkok is bracing for significant rainfall this week, with imminent flooding expected in Ang Thong and Ayutthaya provinces.
The Meteorological Department has announced that more than half of Greater Bangkok will experience rain this week, with particularly heavy downpours anticipated on Sunday.
Reports from the Hydro-Informatics Institute indicate overflowing from two major canals in Ayutthaya province, prompting the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department to issue flood warnings for parts of Ang Thong and many areas in adjacent Ayutthaya within the next 24 hours.
The Chao Phraya River’s flow rate was recorded at 1,498 cubic meters per second on Monday, according to the institute.
The Royal Irrigation Department has reassured that current water levels are manageable, noting that the Chao Phraya barrage dam previously released 2,700 m³/s during the catastrophic floods of 2011.
