Bronx Community Event Enhances Police Relations and Promotes Health Awareness
BRONX, N.Y. – On July 24, the Bronx Harmony Day took place at Oscar Comras Memorial Park, facilitated by the New York Police Department (NYPD) in conjunction with a leading not-for-profit health insurance plan. For over 30 years, this annual event has served as a platform for young residents to engage with police officers, strengthening community ties. Approximately 4,000 children from local camps and church groups participated in enjoyable activities while gaining insights into the importance of physical fitness for a healthy lifestyle.
“Harmony Day not only unites our community but also highlights the critical need for health coverage, ensuring that our youth and their families have access to quality care for healthier living,” said Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson. “I extend my gratitude to the NYPD for their commitment to enhancing our borough’s health infrastructure so every resident, regardless of background, can receive comprehensive patient care.”
“This year, we aimed to bring Harmony Day to the Bronx Park East Community, offering our children a day filled with fun, laughter, and energetic activities,” said event organizer Carolyn Cruz, NYPD Lieutenant. “We are incredibly thankful for the support of our sponsors, as this event wouldn’t be possible without their dedication to keeping our children healthy and happy.”
“Collaborating with community partners significantly impacts our young people,” stated Miguel Centeno, Vice President of Community Engagement. “Having a local presence and addressing resident needs has always been central to our mission, and we are pleased to foster our relationship with the NYPD.”
