Harry Brook has opted out of the IPL for the second consecutive year, ending his association with Delhi Capitals. The talented England cricketer may now face the possibility of a two-year ban from the tournament due to new regulations aimed at curbing withdrawals after the auction.
This suspension policy for overseas players, introduced after frustration from franchises over late withdrawals, allows for exceptions solely in cases of injury or medical concerns. Neither the IPL, Delhi Capitals, nor the England and Wales Cricket Board has made any statements regarding Brook’s decision at this time.
The 26-year-old batter previously withdrew from last year’s IPL following the passing of his grandmother. As an integral player in all formats for England, any potential leadership role in limited-overs cricket could significantly increase his commitments on the field.
Looking ahead, England faces a packed schedule of Test matches, starting with five home games against India this summer, before embarking on an away Ashes tour in November. The team aims to reclaim the urn in Australia for the first time since the 2010/11 series.
Having played just one season in the IPL, Brook showcased his talent with a remarkable 55-ball century against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2023, although he ultimately tallied 190 runs across 11 matches. The upcoming 2025 IPL season is set to kick off on March 22, featuring the defending champions Kolkata facing Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens.
