British tennis star Katie Boulter has advanced to the Round of 16 at the Ningbo Open in China after delivering an impressive performance against Italy’s Sara Errani, winning in straight sets with scores of 6-3, 6-2.
The match faced interruptions due to heavy rain, but Boulter returned to action with the score tied at 2-2. She quickly took control, securing the first set 6-3.
The 28-year-old Briton broke Errani’s serve early in the second set and maintained her lead, holding serve to lead 3-0. Although she was momentarily broken while serving for the match at 5-1, Boulter quickly regained her advantage, sealing the victory with a final break.
Boulter’s next challenge will come against Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia as she aims for a quarter-finals spot.
Additionally, two of the top three seeds in the Ningbo Open, Jasmine Paolini of Italy and Emma Navarro from the USA, have withdrawn from the tournament.
Harriet Dart Stages Comeback
In other news, Harriet Dart, another talented British player, showcased her resilience by coming from behind to defeat Germany’s Laura Siegemund, also reaching the last 16 at the Japan Women’s Open.
After dropping the first set 6-3, Dart displayed determination to claim the second set 7-5, and she went on to win the deciding set by the same score.
Dart will face Denmark’s Clara Tauson next, who previously eliminated her in the first round of the China Open three weeks ago, as both players vie for a spot in the quarter-finals in Osaka.
