The Ondo State Police Command announced on Wednesday the arrest of a 15-year-old suspect linked to the tragic killing of 18-year-old farmer Joshua Gbadamosi in Ifira Akoko, located in the Akoko South-East Local Government Area.
Gbadamosi was found dead on Tuesday, just five days after another farmer, Sunday Ayeni, was reportedly murdered by armed individuals believed to be herdsmen.
Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect remains in custody as authorities continue their investigation.
“Yes, the incident occurred, and we have arrested one Adamu Farouk, aged 15. An investigation has commenced,” the spokesperson said.
Reports indicate that Gbadamosi’s body was discovered with visible machete wounds at Ogudu Farm Settlement. Community sources revealed that his remains were later retrieved by the police in Isua Akoko and transported to the morgue at Ipe Akoko General Hospital.
Reacting to the incident, Oba Victor Adetona, the monarch of Ogbagi Akoko and chairman of the Akoko Divisional Council of Obas, condemned the killing as “callous, wicked, and unacceptable.” He emphasized the pressing issue of herdsmen’s unchecked activities, which are forcing local farmers off their land. The monarch appealed to both the government and security agencies to enhance efforts in restoring safety and peace in the Akoko region, warning that failure to act could lead to severe repercussions for the community.
