Borussia Dortmund staged a remarkable comeback, defeating Bochum 4-2 at home on Friday evening, aided by a standout performance from Serhou Guirassy, who netted two goals.
Guirassy, a recent addition to the team, was joined on the score sheet by captain Emre Can, who successfully converted a penalty, and Felix Nmecha. With this victory, Dortmund climbs to ten points from five matches, while Bochum remains at the bottom of the Bundesliga standings with just one point.
The match began with Dortmund eager to bounce back from a disappointing 5-1 loss to Stuttgart in their previous outing, marking their worst start to the season since the 2014-15 campaign. Bochum, yet to clinch a win in any competition this season, shocked the hosts by taking the lead in the 16th minute through Matus Bero, who capitalized on a counter-attack.
Just five minutes later, Bochum extended their advantage to 2-0 after a defensive blunder from Dortmund allowed Dani de Wit to find the back of the net. Faced with this unexpected setback, Dortmund’s coach, Nuri Sahin, could be seen in distress, while former coach Edin Terzic observed from the stands.
Dortmund struggled to regain their footing, and Bochum nearly pushed their lead to three, but Monaco loanee Myron Boadu missed a crucial opportunity. However, just before halftime, Guirassy brought Dortmund back into the match by heading in a cross from Julian Brandt.
In the second half, Guirassy continued to disrupt the Bochum defense, earning a penalty after being fouled in the box by former Dortmund player Felix Passlack. Emre Can calmly converted the penalty, leveling the score at 2-2.
After tactical changes from Sahin, Guirassy scored again in the 75th minute, coolly sliding the ball past Bochum’s goalkeeper, Patrick Drewes. A mistake from Drewes allowed Nmecha to extend Dortmund’s lead just six minutes later, ensuring control of the match for the hosts.
Guirassy’s impressive form has seen him score four goals in his last three games. Meanwhile, Bochum’s struggles continue as they sit second from the bottom in the league. Looking ahead, reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen are set to clash with Bayern Munich on Saturday.
