Governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have convened a critical meeting today with the party’s acting National Chairman, Amb Umar Damagum, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, along with other key officials. This meeting precedes the upcoming National Executive Committee session set for Thursday.
During this gathering, the reconciliation committee led by Olagunsoye Oyinlola is anticipated to present its findings and recommendations to the party’s National Working Committee. Oyinlola shared insights after his discussions with the PDP National Assembly caucus in Abuja, outlining his role in the meeting.
He emphasized the committee’s mission to engage with National Assembly members to explore the challenges confronting the party and to identify strategies for enhancing its political standing. Oyinlola stated, “Our discussions have yielded valuable suggestions that could help unite our party and strengthen its position.”
Highlighting the importance of unity within the party for electoral success, he remarked, “For any party to enter into a political battle and win, it must be united. That’s what we’re aiming for.”
Oyinlola also indicated that the PDP is refining its strategies in preparation for the upcoming Ondo State governorship election and is actively working to reconcile aggrieved party leaders to present a united front.
Additionally, speculation arises that former Senate President David Mark, ex-Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam, and Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, the Director General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, are poised to become potential successors to the acting national chairman amid ongoing party dynamics.
