In a significant address at the Collectors’ Conference held at the Secretariat, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced plans to enhance the efficiency of the Police Department through advanced technology. He highlighted the installation of 15,000 CCTV cameras across the State during the previous term from 2014 to 2019, but lamented that these resources were left ineffective under the current government. Naidu pledged to assess the operability of these devices and consider purchasing new ones to be strategically placed.
The Chief Minister elaborated on the application of modern technologies for various law enforcement functions, including monitoring red light violations, tracking wrong-way driving, managing illegal parking, identifying vehicle license plates, and detecting abandoned objects.
Naidu emphasized the necessity of collaboration between the Police and Revenue Departments to address land disputes more effectively, acknowledging public unrest relating to land issues that require sensitive handling. He criticized the current government for destabilizing the established land records system, which has roots dating back to the British era.
He referred to an alarming incident in which a fire destroyed thousands of crucial files at the Madanapalle sub-collector’s office, raising concerns about the security of important government documents.
Additionally, the Chief Minister addressed the unresolved murder case of Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, asserting that influential individuals were involved in manipulating the investigation, leaving the case shrouded in mystery. He dismissed claims made by Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy regarding a surge in political murders under the current administration as unfounded, asserting that his government would conduct thorough investigations into these allegations, including any implications concerning TDP leaders or activists.
Naidu concluded by pledging a comprehensive review of criminal cases filed over the past five years and calling for a robust action plan aimed at ensuring peace and effectively combating the issues of drug trafficking and ganja use.
