Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has affirmed the government’s dedication to revitalizing the Musi River and developing it to match projects like the Sabarmati riverfront.
Following a comprehensive survey conducted over the past six months, it has been determined that approximately 10,000 families will be impacted by the riverfront development initiative. The Chief Minister stated, “We will establish a residential colony equipped with essential amenities such as schools, ITIs, and an engineering college for the affected families, with a potential investment of ₹10,000 crore.”
The government plans to provide two-bedroom houses for residents currently residing on the riverbed, while efforts to rehabilitate those living in nearby buffer zones are already in motion, aiming to improve their living standards. “I empathize with the heartbreak of families losing their homes, but to protect future generations from the hazardous waste polluting our river, action is necessary,” he remarked.
Reddy also criticized BRS and BJP leaders for attempting to obstruct this ambitious project designed to benefit communities living alongside the increasingly polluted river. He encouraged locals to insist that leaders K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao spend a week in affected areas to gain firsthand insights into the issues faced by residents.
Highlighting concerns over land acquisition practices under the previous government, he mentioned the acquisition of over 60,000 acres for the Mallanna Sagar reservoir, condemning the use of force against farmers opposing these measures.
Reddy accused the BRS leader K. Chandrasekhar Rao of amassing significant wealth, citing his ownership of a lavish farmhouse spanning 1,000 acres, along with a party fund allegedly worth ₹1,500 crore accumulated over a decade in power.
He also expressed discontent with BJP MP Eatala Rajender for echoing the statements of the BRS leaders and questioned the efficiency of BJP MPs in securing funds for the Musi riverfront development. “I am willing to meet with the Prime Minister to advocate for financial support for this crucial initiative, yet why are local BJP representatives not actively involved?” he asserted.
In addressing rumors regarding the demolition of existing structures, he questioned the availability of funds for such actions, remarking, “Where are the resources for bulldozers when the state’s finances are already strained by substantial debt?”
