The government is prioritizing the swift completion of stalled hydel power projects in the state, according to the Minister for Electricity, K. Krishnankutty.
A high-level meeting took place at the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) Circuit House in Moolamattom, Idukki, where members of the Assembly subject committee assessed the progress of the state’s 300-MW hydel projects. Following the meeting, the committee visited the Moolamattom power plant and the Pallivasal extension site.
Minister Krishnankutty emphasized the urgent need for these projects, stating, “KSEB is currently compelled to purchase power at high costs to manage peak hour demand. Completing the hydel projects will enable the state to mitigate this challenge.”
A decisive conclusion is expected in the upcoming panel meeting. Committee members also toured the Idukki and Cheruthoni dams, along with the Moolamattom powerhouse, to further evaluate operations and progress in hydel power development.
