The England Women’s rugby league team has announced its squad to compete against the reigning world champions, the Australian Jillaroos, in an exciting match set for March 1 in Las Vegas.
Georgia Roche, who recently celebrated her victory in the 2023 NRLW Grand Final, is making her return to the England team after over a year, having excelled with the Newcastle Knights, where she scored two tries in ten appearances this past season.
The talented 24-year-old halfback, recognized as a former Woman of Steel, will join the squad this Friday as they convene at Weetwood for their final training camp ahead of their trip to Nevada on February 25.
Also included in the squad is Canberra Raiders second-rower Hollie-Mae Dodd, who made a successful try-scoring comeback against Wales during the Autumn international. Additionally, Paige Travis has earned her selection.
Tamzin Renouf, returning from a knee injury sustained last season, is among five players from York Valkyrie making the squad, with teammate Jas Bell poised for her international debut.
The 18-year-old Jenna Foubister is another key inclusion, representing Wigan Warriors alongside Anna Davies.
The squad features seven players from St Helens, three of whom competed against the Jillaroos during their last encounter in 2017: Jodie Cunningham, Amy Hardcastle, and Shona Hoyle.
Head Coach Stuart Barrow emphasized the significance of every player’s role ahead of the match against the Australian Jillaroos. He acknowledged the challenging selection process and the abundance of talent within the group while expressing excitement for this historic fixture, the first against the Jillaroos since 2017.
