The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed, has outlined a bold vision for 2025, emphasizing the urgent need for aggressive strategies and robust partnerships to address the issue of road traffic accidents in Nigeria.
In a recent statement, Mohammed highlighted the importance of forming strategic alliances with relevant stakeholders to enhance collective efforts in combating road traffic crashes. He commended the dedication of FRSC personnel but warned that the fight against road accidents must become more intense.
“Road traffic crashes are not inevitable—they are preventable,” he stated, reaffirming the Corps’ commitment to increased public engagement and preventative measures.
Looking back at 2024, Mohammed attributed the Corps’ successes to the unwavering dedication of its staff and the support from national leadership. However, he acknowledged that challenges such as fatal crashes, non-compliance with traffic regulations, and confrontations with FRSC officials still remain significant hurdles.
With a determined outlook for 2025, Mohammed declared that any disregard for basic traffic rules or aggressive behavior toward FRSC personnel will not be tolerated in the coming year.
He also noted the success of town hall meetings launched in 2024, which facilitated direct communication between communities and road safety officials, empowering citizens to hold drivers accountable for their actions.
“No single organization or agency can ensure road safety alone; it is a shared responsibility across all sectors of society,” he emphasized, calling on all stakeholders to remain committed to the mission of fostering safer roadways.
As part of the 2025 agenda, Mohammed committed to enhancing staff welfare policies and increasing vigilance on highways. He assured that the FRSC will continue to build on its progress by implementing proactive measures aimed at reducing road crashes and fatalities.
