ECNETNews, NEW YORK, NY, Tues. Sept. 24, 2024: Caribbean immigrant and Puerto Rican sprint hurdler Jasmine Camacho-Quinn has been honored with induction into the prestigious University of Kentucky Athletics Hall of Fame, highlighting her remarkable achievements in track and field.
Camacho-Quinn, who clinched gold in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and secured bronze at the 2024 Paris Olympics, celebrated this accolade alongside elite athletes such as four-time Olympic gold medalist Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, esteemed coach John Cropp, and other distinguished sports figures.
During her collegiate career at Kentucky, Camacho-Quinn garnered three NCAA titles, winning two in the 100-meter hurdles (2016, 2018) and one in the 4×100-meter relay (2017). As a six-time SEC champion, she also set four school records, solidifying her legacy as one of Kentucky’s most celebrated track and field athletes.
At the induction ceremony held at the Central Bank Center in Lexington, Camacho-Quinn shared heartfelt reflections on her journey from a competitive athlete to a Hall of Fame inductee. She expressed deep gratitude to her family, coaches, and supporters, emphasizing the personal growth she experienced during her time at the university.
“The journey wasn’t the easiest, but it was well worth it. Although I only got to represent Kentucky for three years, those three years taught me so much about myself and life. Six years after graduating, I am now part of the University of Kentucky Hall of Fame!” she remarked.
