ECNETNews, February 3, 2025: Haitian-born Lewis Cine is set to join the Philadelphia Eagles as they prepare to face the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday, February 9th. Although Cine, who was signed from the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad last month, is not expected to play, his participation marks a significant milestone in his athletic career.
From Haiti to the Super Bowl Stage
Born on October 5, 1999, in Haiti, Cine immigrated to the United States at the age of four. He started his journey in Florida before relocating to Everett, Massachusetts. Cine emerged as a standout football player in high school, earning the title of Massachusetts Defensive Player of the Year by USA Today during his junior year. He later transferred to Trinity Christian School in Texas, where he was mentored by NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders before committing to the University of Georgia.
At Georgia, Cine proved himself as a formidable defensive player, playing a crucial role in leading the Bulldogs to a National Championship in 2021 and earning Defensive MVP honors in the title game. He entered the 2022 NFL Draft, where he was selected 32nd overall by the Minnesota Vikings.
NFL Journey and Super Bowl Opportunity
Cine’s tenure with the Vikings posed several challenges, as he participated in only 10 games over two seasons due to a season-ending injury in his rookie year. Upon his return, he played seven games, primarily contributing on special teams. Following his release from Minnesota, Cine was anticipated to join the New York Jets but ultimately signed with the Buffalo Bills. He moved to the Eagles’ active roster on January 8.
Currently part of the Eagles’ active 53-man roster, Cine remains in the team’s future plans beyond the Super Bowl. While his immediate game experience may be limited, his presence at this high-profile event symbolizes his resilience and commitment to his career. As the Eagles take on the Chiefs, Cine will be on the sidelines, proudly showcasing his Haitian heritage on football’s biggest stage.
