A month-long series of test runs will kick off on the new monorail route connecting the Pink Line and Muang Thong Thani, starting Tuesday, with complimentary rides for Bangkok commuters.
According to the operator, the Northern Bangkok Monorail Co., testing will begin on the extension from Muang Thong Thani to Lake Muang Thong Thani on May 20 and will continue until June 16, with no fares charged during this period.
The extension will operate daily from 6 AM to 10 PM on weekdays, and from 6 AM to 11 PM on weekends and public holidays.
This new three-kilometer route features two stations: Impact Muang Thong Thani and Lake Muang Thong Thani. The operator, along with the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand, anticipates that the line will alleviate traffic congestion in Muang Thong Thani, particularly during concerts and major exhibitions.
The enhanced accessibility is expected to attract more events to the venues in the area.
The line extension branches off from the main Pink Line at Muang Thong Thani station on Chaengwattana Road.
