About four vehicles were burned on Saturday, and several individuals sustained injuries after petrol-loaded trucks caught fire on the Ibadan-Ife expressway.
The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services reported that the affected vehicles included a petrol-loaded truck, an 18-passenger bus, a middle-sized truck, and a Micra taxi. This incident occurred at Circular Road Junction in the Egbeda Local Government Area, leading to a significant traffic jam in the area.
Motorists and commuters faced extensive delays as the Federal Fire Service and local security agencies worked to manage the situation. Eyewitnesses indicated that the trucks lost control while attempting to navigate an incline.
A call for assistance was made to the state Fire Services in an effort to mitigate the incident. As of the latest updates, it remains unconfirmed whether there were any fatalities.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire may have been ignited by residents attempting to exploit a fuel leakage. Reportedly, four vehicles were completely destroyed, including one petrol truck, one medium truck, an 18-passenger bus, and one Micra taxi, with minor injuries reported among some individuals.
