The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has made a significant arrest, taking into custody the former Director of Mines and Geology, V. G. Venkata Reddy. This arrest is part of an ongoing crackdown on corruption, following allegations of malfeasance linked to mining operations.
Reddy is being charged under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, along with the Mines and Minerals (Regulation and Development) Act, 1957. He is accused of collaborating with several private mining firms, reportedly leading to a loss of approximately ₹2,566 crore to the state government.
The arrest occurred in the Shamshabad area of Telangana, with Reddy subsequently presented in the ACB Special Court located in Vijayawada. Following his court appearance, he was remanded into judicial custody until October 10, according to ACB officials.
This development underscores the ongoing efforts to address corruption within the state’s mining sector, reflecting a commitment to upholding transparency and accountability.
