Flood Devastates University of Ibadan: Significant Damage Reported
The University of Ibadan has recently suffered extensive damage due to flooding, resulting in the loss of books, foodstuffs, and essential materials within the campus community.
On Friday, the flood wreaked havoc, leading to property destruction estimated in the millions of naira. Among the casualties were important documents and personal valuables belonging to students.
Investigations conducted on Saturday revealed that some hostels, particularly the Awo Hostel, were severely impacted, with floodwaters submerging around 16 rooms on the underground floor. Affected students reported seeing their belongings floating in the water.
A student, who wished to remain anonymous, shared, “The flooding was worst in Awo Hostel where entire rooms were engulfed, leaving students’ possessions scattered in the water.” Another source indicated that the flood obliterated not only food and important documents but also items crucial for ongoing examinations.
“The water infiltrated students’ rooms, bathrooms, kitchens, and blocked all entrances to their hostel,” the source added. “A friend’s room was completely overwhelmed, destroying every item she owned, including those stored in her cupboard.”
Further updates will follow as the situation develops.
