Severe flooding continues to impact 30,073 families across 12 provinces in Thailand, primarily in the northern region, with conditions worsening in certain northeastern areas. Meteorologists are warning of additional heavy rainfall throughout the upcoming week.
Chaiwat Chuntirapong, director-general of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, reported ongoing flooding in several areas:
- Ang Thong province in Wiset Chai Chan district experiences stable flood levels.
- Ayutthaya province sees consistent floodwater in Bang Ban, Bang Pahan, Bang Pa-in, Bang Sai, Phai Hai, and Sena districts.
- Chiang Rai province reports falling flood levels in Chiang Khong, Chiang Saen, Doi Luang, Mae Chan, Mae Fah Luang, Mae Sai, Muang, Thoeng, and Wiang Kaen districts.
- Loei province in Chiang Khan and Pak Chom districts is experiencing rising floodwaters.
- Mae Hong Son province sees declines in flood levels in Pang Ma Pha and Sop Moei districts.
- Nan province reports increasing floodwater in Wiang Sa district.
- Nong Khai province experiences rising levels in Muang, Ratana Wapi, Sangkhom, Sri Chiang Mai, and Tha Bo districts.
- Phetchabun province sees falling flood levels in Chon Daen and Nong Phai districts.
- Phitsanulok province maintains stable flood levels in Bang Rakam, Muang, and Phrom Phiram districts.
- Prachin Buri province experiences a decline in floodwater in Muang and Prachantakham districts.
- Sukhothai province sees receding floodwater in Kong Krailat district.
- Tak province reports lower flood levels in Mae Ramat, Mae Sot, Phop Phra, and Tha Song Yang districts.
According to Mr. Chaiwat, from August 16 to September 15, the flooding has resulted in 43 fatalities, 24 injuries, and has affected a total of 133,040 families across 28 provinces, with a significant concentration in the north.
The Meteorological Department predicts heavy rainfall from Sunday to Tuesday, impacting the Northeast, East, and western coast of the South. Conditions are expected to stabilize by midweek, with reduced rains in the North and upper Northeast, while continuing in the lower Northeast, Central Plains, East, and South.
Soldiers are strategically placing sandbags to control overflow from the Mekong River in the northeastern province of Nong Khai.
