A tragic accident on National Highway 966 near Ayyappankavu occurred late Tuesday night, resulting in the deaths of five individuals traveling in a car. The vehicle collided fatally with a truck around 11 p.m.
The car became lodged under the truck, leading to severe damage. Initial reports suggest that the wet road conditions may have contributed to the car losing control before the head-on collision.
The victims have been identified as K.K. Vijesh, 35, Ramesh, 31, Vishnu, 30, and Mohammed Afsal, 17. Authorities are working to identify a fifth victim. Notably, both Vijesh and Vishnu were autorickshaw drivers in their community.
Emergency services, including police and Fire and Rescue teams, responded promptly to the scene to extricate the victims. Sadly, three individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, while the remaining two succumbed to their injuries en route to the Government District Hospital in Palakkad.
The accident caused significant traffic delays along National Highway 966, with the road being blocked for approximately two hours as rescue operations took place.
