In a recent development, the Special Adviser on Media to the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mr. Zacch Adedeji, has responded to allegations made by a youth coalition accusing him of prioritizing personal political aspirations over his professional responsibilities.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Youth Coalition for Good Governance held a news conference claiming that Adedeji is focused on ambitions to run for the Oyo State governorship election in 2027, despite not officially declaring his intentions.
Mr. Dare Adekanmbi, serving as the Special Adviser, vehemently dismissed these claims as unfounded and careless. In a statement, he emphasized the commitment of Adedeji to his role, clarifying that he has maintained a consistent presence in the office and has not traveled abroad in the past five months.
Adekanmbi urged the coalition to conduct their inquiries thoroughly and provide evidence for their assertions. He stated, “They are not speaking the truth. Allegations of neglecting his duties are simply not accurate.”
Addressing concerns raised by the coalition, convener Ikemba Chidozie underscored the significance of the FIRS in Nigeria’s revenue generation system and stressed the need for accountability. He asserted that Adedeji must choose between his leadership position at the FIRS and his political ambitions, stating, “Nigeria cannot afford a leader who treats public office as a stepping stone for personal ambitions.”
