The Federal Government is set to establish a new Diaspora City aimed at enabling Nigerians living abroad to invest and reconnect with their heritage, as announced by the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, on Monday in Abuja during the unveiling of the Motherland 2025 initiative.
Musawa highlighted the ministry’s commitment to not only reimagining tourism but also to fostering economic growth, cultural exchange, and community development. “Our vision goes beyond attracting global visitors; it aims to utilize the creative and tourism sectors as vital instruments for enhancing the lives of the Nigerian people,” she stated.
The Motherland 2025 initiative is framed as a significant endeavor reaffirming Nigeria’s role as a central hub for global Black and African culture, commerce, and community. “This year, we invite the global diaspora to immerse themselves in our rich traditions, uncover investment opportunities, and witness the transformative changes taking place within our nation,” Musawa said.
The Motherland Festival is designed as an immersive experience that highlights Nigeria’s vibrancy, creativity, and economic potential through exhibitions, state pavilions, and cultural showcases, representing the innovation and cultural heritage of all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The initiative will also honor impactful diaspora members with the Motherland Ambassador Awards.
Musawa underscored that Motherland 2025 is intended to be a long-term catalyst for sustained engagement between the diaspora and their homeland, facilitating lasting connections between investors and opportunities as well as between global travelers and Nigeria’s dynamic offerings. The upcoming Diaspora City will serve as a thriving tourism hub, providing a platform for diaspora members to integrate, invest, and embrace their roots.
In support of the initiative, a representative from Discover Motherland Africa emphasized that this launch marks the beginning of a transformative movement aimed at reconnecting Nigerians in the diaspora with their origins while unlocking opportunities for investment and promoting cultural pride.
