The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended Elela Monday, a man accused of murdering his 14-year-old son in Ajowa Akoko, located in the Akoko North-West Local Government Area.
According to the state Commissioner of Police, the suspect was among those recently arrested by the police. It has been reported that the deceased was buried in a shallow grave.
In a statement released on Sunday, the police commissioner detailed that on December 30, authorities received an anonymous tip-off regarding the incident. The victim, Tope Elela, was allegedly killed by his father, who buried him beneath a banana tree behind their home.
During questioning, the suspect claimed that his son was involved in criminal activities which brought him embarrassment, leading to the tragic decision to end his life along with his wife’s agreement.
In a separate incident, the commissioner addressed a recent cult clash in Owo town, reporting that 25 individuals have been arrested in connection with the violence that resulted in four confirmed deaths. Among those apprehended, one suspect, Olamide Ogunseyila, 28, confessed to being affiliated with a cult group.
The remaining suspects are currently undergoing extensive interrogation to determine their involvement in the unrest, while efforts to locate Steven Dada (alias “Ogodo”) and others associated with these criminal acts are ongoing.
The police commissioner emphasized a continued commitment to safeguarding the community and urged residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement and security agencies.
