A significant controversy has emerged in Jammu and Kashmir following a recent outdoor fashion show held at the stunning ski resort of Gulmarg. Many political leaders and social media users have labeled the event as “obscene,” particularly because it occurred during the holy month of Ramzan.
The Chief Minister’s office acknowledged the public’s “shock and anger,” prompting an order for a report to be submitted within 24 hours to assess the situation and determine any necessary actions.
A viral video showcased models showcasing designer creations on a snow-covered ramp. A prominent political leader criticized the event, questioning the appropriateness of such a show during Ramzan and labeling it as “outrageous.”
He expressed concern over the event’s insensitivity, stating that it undermines the cultural and religious values of the region, known for its Sufi heritage and deeply religious community.
Another key figure from the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference described the fashion show as an “eminently avoidable event,” acknowledging the need for respectful coexistence but asserting that the timing of the show was inappropriate.
The unfolding developments are drawing attention, reflecting broader discussions on cultural sensitivity and tourism promotion in Jammu and Kashmir.
