ORLANDO, Fla. — The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has initiated an investigation regarding multiple drone collisions that occurred during a holiday show over the weekend in Orlando, Florida. The incident resulted in injuries to a 7-year-old boy who subsequently underwent surgery.
Drones fell into a crowd of thousands attending the event at Lake Eola Park on Saturday night. The display had prior approval from the FAA.
“The city’s thoughts are with the family and everyone affected by this incident,” stated an Orlando official. “We are in close communication with the vendor and the FAA to ensure a thorough investigation is conducted.”
The boy’s mother reported that her son, Alexander, sustained a chest injury from the drone. She shared, “The blade cut his mouth, but there’s an actual imprint of the drone on his chest.”
The vendor responsible for the show has not yet provided a response. Their website emphasizes their commitment to “accuracy, execution, and compliance in every aspect of their operations.”
Drone exhibitions generally necessitate a waiver for operating multiple devices concurrently, and the FAA reviews each application to ensure the safety of both the flying public and those present on the ground.
