ECNETNews, New York, NY, Thurs. Oct. 17, 2024: Dianne Dixon, the acclaimed Jamaican actor and singer, is gearing up to star in the highly anticipated American premiere of the psychological drama Goodbye, Doctor. The production will debut on October 24th at The Jeffrey and Paula Gural Theatre at A.R.T./New York Theatres and will run through November 3, 2024.
Directed by Brazilian Debora Baladini, Goodbye, Doctor offers a gripping exploration of the human psyche set against the backdrop of 1970s Paris. The play draws inspiration from the real-life psychoanalytic sessions of the renowned psychiatrist Jacques Lacan. The narrative follows Seriema, a Brazilian woman of Lebanese descent, as she navigates emotional turmoil stemming from two miscarriages and a fractured marriage. Through her sessions with Lacan, she confronts repressed memories and struggles with her inner demons.
Dixon portrays Maria, a spiritual mentor whose profound presence impacts Seriema’s journey. The production also features Barbara Riethe, Jerry Topitzer, and Ian Melamed, with Riethe and Melamed serving as co-producers.
This performance marks a significant return for Dixon, following her recent portrayal of Queen Rasta in McBee at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center earlier this year. Recognized as a vital Caribbean artist in New York, Dixon’s impressive career spans diverse roles in productions such as Ain’t Misbehavin’, An Old Woman Remembers, and Not About Eve. Her Off-Broadway credits include Falling in Love With Mr. Dellamort and the award-winning Flambeaux, which took home six Audelco Awards in 2015.
Beyond the stage, Dixon has earned acclaim for her roles in the Emmy Award-winning series We Are New York, the 9/11 drama Echoes of a Lost Son, and films like Jamaican Mafia and Caribbean Queen. Her contributions to the arts have been recognized with a Caribbean Life Impact Award and a New York City Council Award for Excellence in The Arts.
Goodbye, Doctor will be performed from October 24th to November 3rd, with evening shows at 7:30 p.m. from Tuesday to Saturday and a 2:30 p.m. matinee on Sundays. Tickets are available for purchase now.
