2K and Firaxis Games are revolutionizing the Civilization series with the announcement of Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, set to debut in virtual and mixed reality for the first time. This groundbreaking update was revealed during the Civ World Summit livestream hosted by Firaxis Games.
Civilization VII VR will provide players with a unique perspective from above the game board, presented on a large circular surface known as the Command Table. The game will feature both single-player and online multiplayer modes, although online interactions will be restricted to players using compatible devices.
This innovative experience will offer full virtual reality and mixed reality options, allowing players to command their virtual citizens from a bird’s-eye view or immerse themselves more closely in the action. In the full VR mode, users will find themselves in a vast museum, with the surroundings reflecting their selected leader. Conversely, the mixed reality mode will overlay the Command Table onto a real-world surface, turning ordinary spaces into strategic battlefields.
Civilization VII VR is slated for release on Meta Quest 3 and 3S in Spring 2025, with pre-registration available now through the designated store. Expect an exciting evolution in strategy gaming that bridges the gap between the physical and virtual worlds.
