ECNETNews, New York, NY, Mon. July 22, 2024: The Caribbean is poised for a significant influx of flights, enhancing travel options and bolstering tourism across multiple islands.
American Airlines Expands Chicago-Nassau Route
American Airlines is set to expand its Chicago O’Hare-Nassau route with the introduction of daily nonstop flights beginning December 5, 2024. Utilizing Boeing 737 aircraft, this expansion comes just in time for the busy winter season. Nassau Paradise Island has reported remarkable tourism figures, with nearly 2 million air and cruise visitors recorded in 2024, showcasing a robust travel market.
Grand Bahama Island to Receive Enhanced Airlift
Grand Bahama Island is gearing up for a significant increase in airlift this fall, continuing its positive tourism trajectory. Following a record-breaking 2023 with a 33% rise in foreign air arrivals, the island will welcome new flights from Westernair and Bahamasair. Westernair is set to initiate routes between Fort Lauderdale and Freeport in late August, while Bahamasair will improve its services from September 6 to October 3, 2024.
American Airlines will also resume daily flights to Freeport on October 3, shifting to twice-daily service from Miami in November, along with the addition of new Saturday flights from Charlotte. Furthermore, Bahamasair plans to introduce a route from West Palm Beach to Freeport on November 17, 2024, complementing its existing Orlando services.
This year has already seen the revival of flights from Montreal, Milan, and Orlando, with additional interline agreements established, including ones with Virgin Atlantic and Alaska Airlines. An upcoming partnership with Turkish Airlines in September will further enhance travel accessibility.
New Service to South Caicos
American Airlines will launch non-stop service to South Caicos, Turks & Caicos from Miami starting February 15, 2025. The twice-weekly flights will operate on Embraer 175 aircraft, accommodating 76 passengers, including 12 in first-class. This new service coincides with the opening of Salterra, A Luxury Collection Resort and Spa, enriching the island’s offerings alongside the existing Sail Rock Resort.
Josephine Connolly, Minister of Tourism, emphasized that this new route supports the initiative to diversify tourism and promote economic growth in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Alvin Hegner, Chairman of Experience Turks and Caicos, expressed enthusiasm about enhancing the tourism appeal of South Caicos in anticipation of a significant visitor influx.
The flights from Miami to South Caicos will depart at 10:05 AM, arriving at 12:27 PM, and will return at 1:44 PM, landing in Miami at 3:55 PM.
The boost in flights across the Caribbean is set to improve connectivity, support local economies, and offer travelers a wider array of choices to experience these stunning destinations.
