It may bear a resemblance to Advance Wars in both design and gameplay, but Warside is carving its own path as an exciting new title set to launch on PC on April 14. A console release is also anticipated to follow soon after.
Publisher First Break Labs has officially announced Warside’s release date through a recently unveiled trailer. The game features strategic turn-based mechanics and showcases a variety of units including infantry, tanks, and aircraft, all navigated on a tile-based map. Its pixel art aesthetic echoes the charm of the long-standing Nintendo franchise.
Described as a “fast-paced, turn-based tactics game,” Warside promises an engaging story campaign along with multiplayer functionality. The game will introduce players to 14 unique commanders, each with distinct skills and powers, more than 30 unit types, and a comprehensive map editor.
This marks the inaugural title from developer Lavabird Games, following their successful Kickstarter campaign in 2023 and subsequent partnership with First Break Labs in 2024. Players can get a taste of the gameplay with a free demo that was released for PC in September.
Beyond its PC release, Warside is slated for availability on Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Meanwhile, Nintendo’s last venture into the Advance Wars series was the 2023 remake package, Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, which experienced delays due to international circumstances.
