ECNETNews Highlights: Saltillo Unveils Citizen Forums to Shape the Municipal Development Plan for 2025-2027
During the event, Mayor Javier Díaz emphasized the critical role of transportation and mobility in the city, noting that around 500,000 vehicles traverse Saltillo daily, alongside approximately 110,000 public transport users. He stated that enhancing these conditions is a priority to ensure a dignified and efficient service.
Díaz confirmed that safety remains the top priority for the municipality. He recalled that during times of increased insecurity, issues like mobility became secondary to public safety concerns. The mayor highlighted that the municipality has made significant strides towards improved security, urging residents to acknowledge these successes.
The mayor also discussed the federal government’s proposed passenger train project, which could potentially include a station in Derramadero. This initiative, as noted, is expected to enhance regional mobility and pave the way for an interurban train connecting Saltillo to Ramos Arizpe.
In the proposals presented, business leaders and experts stressed the importance of streamlining processes for new businesses, upgrading mobility infrastructure, and expanding the public transportation network. There was a strong call to strengthen partnerships between industry and academia to enhance workforce development, alongside promoting the establishment of well-planned urban subcenters.
In the tourism sector, suggestions included enhancing the historic center with specialized tourist routes and improving accessibility for both pedestrians and vehicles, aiming to boost local tourism and the regional economy.
It is important to note that the Municipal Development Plan for 2025-2027 will be presented in March before the city council and published in the Official Gazette. This document aims to guide the city’s growth with a focus on sustainability and community participation.
