Rehan Ahmed and Jordan Cox have been officially added to England’s white-ball squad for the upcoming tour of the West Indies.
Ahmed, a talented leg-spinner, will participate in the third Test match in Pakistan and will fly directly from Rawalpindi to the Caribbean after the conclusion of the game. Meanwhile, wicketkeeper-batter Cox, who has not yet played in the Test series, has been released early and is expected to be available for all three One Day Internationals (ODIs), but will miss the subsequent T20 series as he prepares for an upcoming Test trip to New Zealand.
Ahmed’s late arrival raises doubts about his participation in the first ODI, scheduled for next month. However, Cox is eager to make his ODI debut following a strong performance in the recent T20I series against Australia.
England’s white-ball captain Jos Buttler will not feature in the ODI series due to a setback during his recovery from injury. In his absence, Lancashire all-rounder Liam Livingstone has been appointed as captain for the first time. Buttler has been sidelined since the T20 World Cup in June and has missed the series against Australia, prompting concerns regarding his rehabilitation from a calf injury.
Despite his injury, Buttler remains part of the squad and plans to join the tour party in Barbados, aiming for a return in the five-match T20 series starting on November 9. Uncapped Essex wicketkeeper-batter Michael Pepper has been named as Buttler’s replacement for the ODI series.
