The Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, has called for the South East Development Commission (SEDC) to prioritize single projects to ensure significant impact in the region. This appeal was made during a meeting with newly appointed SEDC members, led by Chief Executive Officer Dr. Emeka Nworgu, at the governor’s lodge in Awka.
Soludo emphasized the necessity of concentrating efforts on initiatives over the next five years, highlighting the importance of effective delivery mechanisms to provide tangible benefits to the populace. He suggested that the commission adopt a focused agenda, such as the South East rail network that would connect all state capitals, and fully deliver on it before moving to subsequent projects.
“If we spread ourselves too thin trying to address over 50 issues, many projects risk being left incomplete, and we’ll be left questioning our achievements,” Soludo remarked. He stressed the need for a clear report card to demonstrate the impact of the SEDC’s efforts to the people of the South East after five years.
Additionally, Soludo encouraged collaboration between the commission and South-East governors to facilitate substantial progress in the region’s development.
Dr. Nworgu commended Soludo for his landmark achievements in health, education, and infrastructure, while SEDC Managing Director Mr. Mark Okoye reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to transforming the southeast into a premier investment hub for sustainable development and economic growth, expressing optimism for a productive partnership that would benefit Anambra and the broader southeastern region.
