The world’s wealthiest individual, Elon Musk, has ignited curiosity following a sudden change to his name on a popular social media platform, now declaring himself as “Kekius Maximus.”
The tech leader has not provided an explanation for this new moniker nor the accompanying profile image featuring Pepe the Frog, a character often linked to internet memes and controversially associated with far-right movements.
This unexpected development has reverberated through the cryptocurrency sector, leading to a notable surge in the value of a memecoin sharing the same name. Historically, Musk’s social media remarks have had significant impacts on cryptocurrency prices, though his direct involvement with this specific digital currency remains uncertain.
The term “Kekius” appears to be a Latin adaptation of “kek,” a slang term that gained popularity in gaming circles but has since been linked to alt-right communities. Interestingly, “Kek” also refers to an ancient Egyptian deity symbolizing darkness, represented with a frog’s head.
Furthermore, many would associate “Maximus” with the renowned character from the epic film Gladiator, Maximuse Decimus Meridius. Musk’s new image shows Pepe adorned in Roman military attire, intriguingly holding what seems to be a game console.
