The Federal Government has announced the closure of the Eko Bridge and its ramps for an important asphalt resurfacing project, set to last eight weeks. This initiative aims to enhance road safety and improve the driving experience for motorists.
The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, confirmed that the closure will commence on Friday, September 20, and extend until Wednesday, November 20.
The statement emphasized, “The Federal Ministry of Works is undertaking essential resurfacing work on the Eko Bridge and ramps starting from 7:00 a.m. on September 20.”
Full closures will occur in certain sections of the bridge, while other areas will have partial access. The project involves milling the existing asphalt followed by the relaying of new asphalt to address deterioration and ensure a smoother, safer roadway.
Motorists should anticipate detours and alternative routes due to the closure. Drivers heading to the Island from Funsho Williams Avenue can utilize the service lane at Alaka to connect with Costain and access the Eko Bridge.
For navigating around the Eko Bridge, the following routes are suggested:
– From the Island: Access Costain to connect to Eko Bridge and link to Apongbon.
– For routes from Apongbon inwards Eko Bridge: Link Costain to access Funsho Williams Avenue.
– Costain inwards Alaka/Funsho Williams Avenue: Use Apapa Road from Costain to connect Oyingbo, then link to Adekunle, accessing the Third Mainland Bridge.
– Surulere drivers can link Breweries towards Abebe Village to connect with Eric Moore/Bode Thomas using Costain.
Mrs. Kesha urged residents and businesses in the impacted areas to plan their travels accordingly. She reassured the public that proper signage and traffic control measures will be implemented to guide drivers and pedestrians throughout the closure.
Acknowledging the inconvenience, she thanked the public for their patience and cooperation during this vital infrastructure improvement project.
