The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, Felix Ogbe, has announced an ambitious target of achieving 70 percent Nigerian content in the oil and gas sector by the year 2027. This announcement was made during Ogbe’s visit to BEAMCO Nigeria Limited’s facilities in Lagos, where he praised the company for its achievements in equipment component manufacturing.
During the visit, Ogbe commended Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited, Saipem-Daewoo Joint Venture, and BEAMCO Limited for their contributions to increasing in-country value addition. He also shared details about the installation plans for locally assembled pumps and valves ahead of the NLNG Train-7 project on Bonny Island, Rivers State.
At the load-out ceremony held at BEAMCO’s facility in Apapa, Lagos, Ogbe highlighted the significance of producing essential components domestically, which has been facilitated by the Equipment Component Manufacturing Initiative launched by the NCDMB in 2013. This initiative has established the Nigerian Content Equipment Certificate as a requirement for participation in equipment supply within the oil and gas industry.
Ogbe confirmed that NLNG, through its main contractor Saipem-Daewoo, awarded BEAMCO a contract to supply 17 American Petroleum Institute pumps and 19 control valves, adhering to the NCDMB’s approved vendor list for the NLNG Train-7 project. He expressed pride in BEAMCO’s commitment to delivering high-quality pumps and valves on time.
“This progress illustrates that the Nigerian business environment is equipped to support manufacturing and assembly,” said Ogbe. He further asserted that the recent Presidential Directives on Local Content implementation emphasize the importance of awarding contracts to local companies with proven capabilities.
Ogbe assured that the NCDMB will continue to support BEAMCO in expanding its capabilities to include backward integration in the manufacturing of pump and valve components in Nigeria. He encouraged companies in the oil and gas sector to collaborate in achieving similar milestones, reinforcing the collective goal of reaching 70 percent Nigerian content by 2027.
The event also featured the dispatch of four pumps (two Reflux pumps and two Amine booster pumps) and five valves (two Mark 100 valves, one Mark One valve, and two flowtop valves), underlining the continuing expansion of local content in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
