During a recent event at Sharnbasva University, Meena Chandawarkar, Chairperson of the Southern Regional Committee (SRC) of the National Council of Teachers Education (NCTE), emphasized the urgent need for increased funding and focus on research and development within the academic sector. She noted that this area has historically received inadequate attention and funding compared to other sectors.
While inaugurating the Animal House Facility and Zoological Museum, Dr. Chandawarkar highlighted that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 represents a significant shift toward prioritizing education alongside research and development. The government’s initiative to establish a National Research Foundation under the NEP, with adequate funding, is expected to bolster research activities, crucial for the nation’s progress.
Dr. Chandawarkar advocated for universities to implement a policy requiring students to produce at least one research paper each semester to cultivate a research-oriented mindset among students. She encouraged these students to capitalize on university resources for their research endeavors.
She commended Sharnbasva University for establishing the only Animal House Facility and Zoological Museum in North Karnataka’s Faculty of Science and Technology, underscoring its role in enhancing research opportunities.
Furthermore, she urged students to venture beyond Kalaburagi in pursuit of valuable research experiences.
Notable attendees included Basavaraj Deshmukh, Secretary of the sangha, and Anilkumar Bidve, Vice-Chancellor of the university.
