Techland has officially announced “Dying Light: The Beast,” the newest installment in its popular open-world zombie series, accompanied by an exciting trailer that features the return of the original game’s protagonist, Kyle Crane, as a playable character. This announcement was made during the recent Gamescom Opening Night Live event.
The trailer, while sparse on details, intriguingly shifts between a group of soldiers and a mysterious creature that decimates them—suggesting that Crane, when he appears, may be the player character.
In a thought-provoking moment, Crane cryptically states, “Every man has an animal within. If you push too much, you might unleash the beast.” This hints at the possibility of players taking on the role of a mutant monster alongside the traditional parkouring zombie-hunter gameplay.
Geoff Keighley, hosting the event, provided further insights, noting that “The Beast” will deliver a new zombie adventure within the Dying Light universe featuring 20 hours of gameplay, a fresh open-world region, and additional content. This positions the game as a potential blend between an expansion for “Dying Light 2” and a full standalone title.
“Dying Light 2: Stay Human,” launched in 2022, revitalized the series with its signature parkour mechanics and enhanced progression and narrative choices. The sequel has received mixed reviews, with critics highlighting improvements in parkour while noting shortcomings in other areas of gameplay.
