NEW YORK — A woman has been charged with multiple offenses after a tragic incident in Brooklyn where a mother and her two children lost their lives while out for a walk. This incident has been described by city officials as a horrific accident.
Miriam Yarimi faces charges including three counts of criminal negligent homicide, manslaughter, and second-degree assault, among other offenses, following the crash that occurred on Saturday afternoon.
Authorities report that Yarimi was driving on a suspended license and was operating the vehicle at a high speed. She allegedly failed to yield after stopping at a red light, causing her car to collide with another vehicle before striking the family in the crosswalk.
Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch referred to the event as “a horrific tragedy caused by someone who shouldn’t have been on the road,” emphasizing the devastating impact on the family and community. Reports indicate that another child from the family remains in critical condition.
The crash occurred when Yarimi’s vehicle rear-ended another car, resulting in minor injuries for both drivers and several passengers. Yarimi needed to be extracted from her vehicle after it overturned following the collision.
The family, consisting of a 35-year-old mother and her daughters aged 6 and 8, were pronounced dead at the scene, while a 4-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital. City officials expressed deep concern over the incident, highlighting the sorrow felt by the community during this difficult time.
