CES 2025 showcases groundbreaking innovations in robot vacuums, with Dreame unveiling its latest model, the X50 Ultra. While the marketing excitedly refers to it as a “stair-climbing” robot vacuum, the reality is somewhat different: the X50 Ultra can only handle thresholds of about two inches.

The X50 Ultra’s ability to navigate only small obstacles makes it more of a threshold-hopper than a stair climber. Dreame’s North American team emphasizes its capability to “literally climb stairs,” but this claim seems exaggerated given its limited functionality. Its primary advantage lies in conquering low barriers such as cords and the edges of doorways, thanks to the advanced ProLeap System technology.
Despite its limitations, handling vertical challenges over two inches is an improvement over many existing robot vacuums on the market. While not a full staircase solution, it represents notable progress in vacuum technology.
Though we couldn’t personally assess the X50 Ultra’s performance due to connectivity issues, its robust specifications suggest it’s a strong competitor. With up to 20,000Pa suction power, a HyperStream Detangling DuoBrush for tangle-free operation, and a 360-degree scanning sensor for efficient navigation, the X50 Ultra promises powerful cleaning capacity.
However, users will still need to manually carry the device up stairs, as its performance remains confined to low thresholds. If you’re in the market for a high-quality robot vacuum capable of navigating flat surfaces with ease, the X50 Ultra certainly deserves consideration.
The Dreame X50 Ultra is set for pre-order on January 7 for $1,699, with an official launch planned for Valentine’s Day 2024.
