Drake has successfully settled his legal dispute with iHeartMedia Inc., the parent company of iHeartRadio, regarding allegations of a pay-to-play scheme designed to elevate Kendrick Lamar’s track “Not Like Us.” Court documents reveal that iHeartMedia stated, “In exchange for documents that demonstrated iHeart did nothing wrong, Drake agreed to withdraw his petition. No payments were made by either party.”
Initially, Drake accused iHeartMedia of unlawfully accepting payments from Universal Music Group (UMG), the record label representing both artists, claiming this violated the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. His legal filing in Bexar County, Texas, further alleged that UMG should have prevented the release of “Not Like Us” due to its content, which he argued falsely depicted him as a sex offender involved in illicit activities. Despite settling with iHeartMedia, Drake is still pursuing a federal lawsuit against UMG, alleging harassment and defamation related to the track’s release.
In the announcement of the settlement, Drake’s legal team expressed that an amicable resolution had been reached with iHeartMedia, as reported in the latest court documents.
