ECNETNews, NEW YORK, NY, Weds. Sept. 4, 2024: A fundraising campaign has successfully raised over $5,000 towards its $100,000 goal to support the long-term care and rehabilitation of renowned Jamaican gospel dancehall artist, Lieutenant Stitchie.
The campaign, initiated by his wife Sophia Laing from Port Saint Lucie, Florida, aims to provide essential care for Cleveland Laing, 58, who has unfortunately suffered a severe brain hemorrhage leaving him in an unresponsive state.
In her heartfelt appeal, Mrs. Laing shared, “We are reaching out during this incredibly challenging time. Our beloved Cleve ‘Lt. Stitchie’ Laing has recently suffered a severe brain hemorrhage. We urgently need your assistance to secure his stay in a long-term care facility where he can receive necessary rehabilitation. Your contributions will bring hope to Lt. Stitchie and his family during this difficult moment. Every donation, no matter how small, is vital in covering his transfer, medical expenses, and ongoing care. Please consider contributing to this cause and sharing with others who may also be able to assist.”
Lieutenant Stitchie, also known as The Governor, has faced health challenges since at least 2023. Concerns about his wellbeing were raised last October when he appeared disoriented on stage.
The Spanish Town, Jamaica native is celebrated for timeless hits such as “Great Ambition,” “Rude Boy,” “To God Be The Glory,” “Ghetto Soldier,” “Serious Message,” and “Warrior.” His contributions to gospel reggae music were recognized with an honorary doctorate from Cornerstone Christian University in Orlando, Florida, in 2012, and he was inducted into the Gospel Hall of Fame in January 2016 in Kingston, Jamaica. In 2014, he published his autobiography, The Power of Determination.
In 2021, he received honors during Jamaica’s 59th Anniversary of Independence as part of the National Honours and Awards.
