Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown has categorically rejected Donald Trump’s claims about a perilous helicopter ride they allegedly shared. Trump, during a recent news conference, recounted a frightening experience where he suggested they nearly crashed. “We thought maybe this was the end,” Trump remarked, indicating there was an emergency landing. However, Brown, now 90, dismissed the account as “fiction,” stating he has never flown with Trump and expressing disbelief at the notion of sharing a helicopter with him.
The controversy seems to stem from a mix-up by Trump, who may have been confusing Willie Brown with Jerry Brown, California’s former governor. In 2018, Trump and Jerry Brown shared a helicopter trip to assess the aftermath of the devastating Paradise wildfires, which was confirmed by both men, stating there were no emergencies or threats during the flight. California’s current Governor also weighed in, calling Trump’s narrative “complete BS.”
This incident arose as Trump faced questions regarding Willie Brown’s former association with Kamala Harris when she was a California prosecutor in the mid-1990s. Trump claimed that Brown had imparted “terrible things” about Harris to him, a statement further denied by Brown, who affirmed his longstanding respect for Harris, calling her a “good friend” and “smart as all hell.”
As Trump made these statements, polls indicated Kamala Harris is gaining traction among voters, with recent surveys showing her leading Trump in key battleground states such as Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. This growing support underscores the current political landscape as both parties gear up for the upcoming elections.
