The upcoming Barahona cruise port builds on the success of the Cabo Rojo cruise terminal in Pedernales, which welcomed its inaugural cruise ships in 2024. Major cruise lines are amplifying their itineraries to Cabo Rojo in 2025 and 2026, with Costa Cruises, MSC Cruises, and Holland America joining the lineup. Cabo Rojo is on track to host over 100,000 cruise passengers in 2025.
Furthermore, the Arroyo Barril port in Samaná is undergoing redevelopment to accommodate larger cruise vessels, transitioning from a tender-only port to a modern terminal attracting even more cruise operators.
