CPI(M) leaders P. Jayarajan and T.V. Rajesh are set to face trial in connection with the alleged conspiracy to murder Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) worker Abdul Shukkoor. This follows a decision from the CBI Special Court in Kochi, which dismissed their discharge petition on Thursday.
The investigation, which was taken over by the CBI from the Crime Branch, was prompted by a Kerala High Court order after a petition was filed by Abdul Shukkoor’s mother.
The murder, which occurred on February 20, 2012, sparked significant political controversy in northern Kerala. Prosecutors allege that Shukkoor was killed by CPI(M) workers in retaliation for his involvement in an incident where stones were reportedly thrown at a vehicle carrying Jayarajan.
Details concerning the legal reasoning behind the court’s rejection of the discharge petition will be disclosed once the court order is publicly available. Additionally, the decision will be contested in the Kerala High Court, as confirmed by K. Viswan, the counsel representing the CPI(M) leaders.
